Coupons certainly influence how I purchase my groceries as I am compelled to buy more packaged, canned, and processed foods whenever using them. Because I am a single mother with a 17 year old daughter, groceries for our family can be quite costly. In order to adhere to a budget and still be able to purchase a good amount of groceries, I snip and rely upon coupons on a regular basis. Unfortunately, coupons typically cannot be used to buy fresh fruits, herbs, and vegetables, and so although I prefer to buy healthy foods, utilizing coupons changes what I decide to purchase because of the cost savings. Therefore, due to living on a limited income, I have to decide whether or not I should purchase healthy and fresh food options for my family, or go with the less healthy alternative because it is more affordable. Of course, at the end of the day, when money is a scarce resource, then I am going to choose coupons as they will allow me to save some money and purchase more groceries for my family. In conclusion, coupons can be very useful in allowing individuals to purchase food items at a lower price, but because they are only available for certain items, they influence my purchasing decisions as I have to forego fresh items and choose packaged and processed foods instead.
