I'm in Coupons Scholarship 2014. Entry-Daniel J.

Support Education and Coupons

According to Nelson Mandela, “Education is [a] powerful weapon.”  School has positively changed my life, considering I am the first in my family to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree. I have been absolutely blessed to study my first love, which is cooking. Before I attended college, I religiously utilized coupons in order to save money, in turn helping me build a college tuition fund. Today, I am passionate about sharing and school, which coincidentally go hand in hand. Not only do I sincerely adore learning, but I also adore passing down invaluable information. For example, I inform others about nutrition because I strongly believe if people know better then they will do better. So I strongly admire helping others and school as much as the French admire full bodied red wines.

Food and school are my life. The person I was before school and the person I am today with an education is like day and night. A culinary education has made me a stronger culinarian, time manager and leader altogether. Studying, reading and cooking have enriched my professional profile. I have been fortunate to gain knowledge from many wonderful chefs, authors, professors and talented individuals. Eventually, I want to give back to the people around me academically. After my schooling is complete, I will inform others about food and management, considering life is a combination of both.

My long term goal is to be an educator who inspires and motivate others. In order to achieve this extremely rewarding profession, I am continuing my studies at Widener University in Pennsylvania. I will pursue a Master’s degree in hospitality management to build a solid academic foundation, in turn impacting future generation.

As stated before, education define me. I chose education because it is my calling in life to spread the good word about the hospitality industry. My professors, former chefs, friends and family urge me continue school due to my immense passion for learning. One of my mentors, Dr. Mathey, concludes I would be an excellent instructor due to my excellent work ethics and interpersonal communication skills.

I would like to conclude with Oprah’s famous quote, “I come as one, but I stand as 10,000 to the 10th power.” I represent the thousands of individuals who do not have the opportunity to receive a college education, including my beloved parents. I am just hoping to make a difference in the world academically, but first I need the proper education. Like any other scholarship I find myself applying for, it can help me obtain an education, in turn helping future generations. However, if it does not work out, I will be forced to pay the out-of-state tuition out of pocket, or apply for additional student loans, due to extremely limited amount of scholarships provided by Widener University. I trust that you all with make the decision to reward someone determined, dedicated and passionate about the hospitality industry.

As stated before, I love the idea of helping others through doing what I love, which is culinary arts. Sharing is one of my absolute favorite things, and I believe in sharing my knowledge and experience with others anytime they ask. I share on a regular basis, for example I have a rich history of helping major organizations, including the SPCA, Meals on Wheels, March of Dimes, and the American Heart Association. I am trying to fine tune my leadership profile so that one day I can be an asset in the industry.

If there is one thing I learned in life thus far it is to never be afraid to ask for help. This explains why I always resorted to coupons because the extra dollars helped me finance an education. Obtaining this scholarship, beyond monetary value, would mean that an organization of esteemed professionals in an industry, believe that I would be a positive contribution. If I am not chosen, I can trust that there were individuals more deserving than myself with undying passion of their field of expertise.

You truly have developed an inspiring essay that shows your passion for education and how it can benefit you in your overall development as you continue a process of growth and development. It is sad how so many continued to miss out on the benefits of education because they are unable to afforded the cost. As someone who also came from economic situation where i could not afforded formal education but made it happen anyway, I understand your perspective. Continue to strive for excellence and it will come your way. I wish you continued success in your educational endeavors.
    Sincerely,
    Myss Meka
