I would like to say that coupons influence my decisions in the stores, but because couponing is so time consuming, I do not have time to collect them. I would love to be able to save the kind of money that I hear coupons help with, but with having a full-time job, a full-time college career, and being a mother, I do not have the luxury of spare time. I do load coupons onto my in-store card at Kroger although I tend to forget what the coupons are and for what deals. I know that there is an option to print out the coupon listing and take it with you, but I would forget to look at it because when I am in the store, I am rushed to get what I need and get out of the store.
Coupons were made to save families money and to advertise the new merchandise to the public. Coupons prompt buyers to purchase that company’s items, which generates income for both them and the stores. Coupons are being abused in the world today and people are taking advantage of the other patrons that visit the store by their lack of consideration. Being someone who uses coupons becomes a full-time job in itself. The amount of time that it takes to collect, organize, and strategize in order to use coupons is amazing. The person has to know exactly what items are on sale at all times and what will be going on sale in the future because if they use a coupon on an item that is not on sale this week, yet is about to go on sale next week, they will not be maximizing their savings. It takes a lot of planning and sacrifice to be a successful coupon user.

One aspect of couponing that I find to be unfair and inconsiderate of other shoppers is that people with a massive amount of coupons will completely clear a shelf out of a sale item leaving nothing for the other shoppers. I think the store should have a policy that if they are going to use such a large quantity of coupons for one particular item, they should have to schedule with the store exactly what quantity they will be needing and what day they are showing up at the store to retrieve their merchandise.
I enjoy watching the “Extreme Couponing” television show because they pay little to nothing for a large amount of merchandise, but most of the time, they don’t get things that their family needs which sits in a room not being utilized. That is wasteful to me.
