This morning we've arranged a guided tour of Cluny. Built in the 10th century, this influential Benedictine Abbey was to become Europe's largest building until St Peter's in Rome was rebuilt in the 16th century.
Next you're headed north through Givry and Mercurey with lunch at a local favorite in charming medieval Rully. We'll have a great selection of wines here, especially the whites. As Alfio likes to say, "a great Rully is like a Puligny-Montrachet that you can drink every day." We're in for a treat with some great Crémant de Bourgogne too. Rully is where Burgundy made its first sparkling wines in the 18th century.
On our way to Beaune, we'll go through the famous vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Meursault, Volnay, and Pommard.
This afternoon we'll check into our 4-star hotel in Beaune and enjoy tonight's exceptional dinner at the Caves de l'Abbaye de Maizières.
